GENERAL

as mods, we promise to do our part to promote an active and fun community of diverse, creative writers and characters. as a foundation, the basic rules of rp will apply. that means absolutely no plagiarism, no godmodding and no crossing the ic/ooc line. players/characters may face removal and possible ban for these violations.

please remember two very important things: respect and courtesy.

MODS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ADD OR EDIT RULES AS THEY DEEM NECESSARY. community members will be notified of rule changes as they occur. and edits will be noted and referenced for a month post change.

STORYLINES AND MATERIAL

triggers, nsfw material and large images should all be hidden behind a cut or link with an appropriate warning.

we do not require mod approval on your storylines. but please keep in mind that we are present and will step in if there is material that is making our community members uncomfortable. please try to approach subjects with respect and knowledge. we understand that there are all kinds of positive and negative life experiences to explore. and that it can be very interesting to portray a character who has gone down a very different life path than you have. but we encourage you to not be afraid to do some research to help with accurate portrayals of these situations and conditions.

additionaly, please allow the proper and/or realistic timelines for major life events such as pregnancies, divorces, etc.

CHARACTERS & PBS

the current character limit is 2. if you are choosing to bring in a second character, we encourage you to branch out of your comfort zone and interact with a different social circle. additionally, you must show an equal level of activity between both characters. if mods notice neglect of one character, or that you are continually waiting until last minute to meet update requirements (with low community interaction during the rest of the month), then we will address this and give one warning. if this still remains a problem, the ignored character will face removal, at mods discretion, so as to avoid face hogging. your second character cannot be a family member of your first.

your character must be 18+ years old and currently living in ann arbor, michigan in one of the 3 apartment complexes listed here. you may claim the apartment number, as well as roommates, once you are in game.

pbs must be 18+ and must represent a character within a 5 year age range of their current age. pbs must be famous and/or known in the entertainment industry, in some way. that means that they have chosen to knowingly live in the public eye and should be easily found in a google search. we do not accept original or deceased pbs.

in an effort to bring back a level of old school creativity. and to promote a more noticeable twin aesthetic, two players may use the same pb if their characters are twins. each character/journal must have unique, completely different icons. it is up to the players to differentiate and explain elements such as hairstyles, tattoos and other distinguishing features.

if your character has children, you may claim the pb of your character's npc child. this is done on a first come, first serve basis. we do not hold npc children pbs. once you are in game, there will be a directory form to fill out, in which you can make your claim.

we understand that muses can change and we will allow pb changes to account for this. however, only a maximum of 2 pb changes will be allowed per character in a 6 month period. additionally, you must keep the pb change for 1 month before requesting another pb change.

APPLYING

to apply, you will need an ic username, a friends only post, a screened ooc contact post, 10 detailed facts and this questionnaire completed. you may combine your ooc, facts and questionnaire responses into one post. all of these posts should be backdated so the friends page is clean and up to date. aim is optional but hightly encouraged.

your facts do not have to be paragraph length but should be more than one liners. lists of likes/dislikes/hobbies will not count as a fact.

you will also need to drop off examples with your application in the appropriate examples dropbox which is different than our main dropbox for general questions and mod contact. please make sure you have the mod journal added to your character's journal and that your examples are visible. we will not be following up if you forget to friend us. if we cannot access your examples, your application will be rejected and deleted.

ACCEPTANCE & REJECTION

your acceptance into the community is based on the quality of your examples, and your characterization. please provide recent examples (2 scene examples and 1 first person example) and make sure your facts are detailed and insightful. we are looking for in depth, diverse characters. applications that are missing information or examples, or with examples linked in the incorrect dropbox, will not be considered.

if your application is deleted, you were not accepted either because you did not meet requirements, didn't follow application instructions, or we felt the example quality or your character concept was not a good fit for the community. we will not be responding to further inquiries regarding rejection of apps.

INTRODUCTIONS

once accepted, you will have 3 days to post your introduction to ~texting. we accept the traditional intro style. please remember that the intro process is ongoing, meaning that we will expect you to welcome new members that come after you, as well.

you will also be expected to fill out a directory form, located here, with information needed to complete our directories.

for more information for new players, check out our getting started section in our member's area.

our ffa posts will be a big part of integrating into the community, as well. you should also be participating in our weekly ffa posts and are encouraged to post in~texting and ~shuffle with your own questions and songs for the community whenever the mood strikes.

UPDATES & ACTIVITY

our activity periods run between the 1st and 30th of every month. activity requirements are due at 10pm EST on the 30th of every month. you may post your activity throughout the activity period via our activity tracker

you will be required to make one substantial journal entry per activity period. this may be a narrative, a first person journal entry (either private or public), or another insightful or heavily coded entry that shows effort, creativity and engagement. we will not be accepting things like instagrams, playlists, or polyvores for your monthly activity requirement, though we do encourage these updates throughout the month, in addition to activity requirements, to add variety and because they are fun. also, please note, that private threads and customs will not count towards activity.

players who initiate and post community wide events that are posted in ~publicize can use them toward their monthly activity requirement. these events must be open to a large portion of the community, if not entirely open to everyone. and should be somewhat detailed and/or include visuals and appropriate coding. events like an open-to-anyone birthday party or communinity barbecue or fundraising event are what we're looking for here. things like a small get together or an exclusive dinner party are not.

players who join within the last week of the month are not required to post activity links for that month. they will be responsible for normal requirements beginning the following month. (ie: if you join between may 24th-31st, you will not have to post activity until june 31st. intro requirements still stand.)

friends lists must be kept up to date. if you are using the < noembed > code in your userinfo, you must make sure the friends list is visible when activity checks are done. it is the player's responsibility to report all activity to the activity tracker on time. failure to do so will result in removal.

RETURNING PLAYERS

characters that have shown a pattern of being repeatedly removed from ~aptguide for lack of activity may not be accepted again at the discretion of the mods. additionally, overuse of extension requests or repeatedly waiting until the end of the cycle to become active may result in a warning or removal.

returning characters who have been removed for inactivity must provide links to a recent traditional style update which shows substantial writing. this means that playlists, instagrams, polyvore or other media heavy entries will not be considered. if you left the community and informed the mods prior to falling inactive, you will not be required to provide this entry if you choose to return.

current players applying for a second character, and returning players whose previous characters were either removed or pulled from the community, are all required to disclose to the mods that they have played here previously and who their character(s) were/are. do this in the example dropbox. failure to disclose previous and current characters could result in removal of all characters in game.

HIATUSES & EXTENSIONS

you may request activity extensions and hiatuses via the members area.

application extensions may be granted once per hold, for a total of 24 hours. please post a new comment to the holds page if you are requesting an extension.

activity extensions will only be granted for up to 3 days past the activity due date at the end of every month. as your activity should be spread out throughout the month, the extension should be used less as a last minute backup plan and more for the occasion that you will not be around during activity drop offs, or in case of emergency or real life situations that arise.

hiatuses should be requested via the members area, as well. hiatuses will be granted for a maximum of three weeks. for extenuating circumstances that could require a longer break, please speak to the mods. hiatuses will not be granted 3 days prior to activity drop off due dates.

players returning from hiatus must update their journals or post in a subcomm within one week after their return or face removal.

CHOOSING AN APARTMENT

players must notate what apartment your character will be residing in, on the application. players must choose to live in one of the three fictional apartments created for the game. you can read more about the apartments here.

once you are accepted into the game, you may choose the specific apartment number and confirm roommates. there is a form to fill out in our member's area where you can provide us all of this information so that we may keep our directories up to date. you can find available apartments numbers by going to our APT SEARCH page and clicking on check availability per each apartment. it will show you the current tenant list and available units.

although each apartment complex will have mutliple floors and units, we will only be offering certain sections/floors at a time. this is to promote interaction and so that characters are not vastly spread out. when the need arises, will be opening up more floors and units.

the floorplans are shown as a template, to add to the rp experience. we are not going to be strictly enforcing what floorplan matches up to each unit number. after all, the apartment complexes in game are fictional locations and only based upon real places. your floorplan and the amount of bedrooms in your character's unit is up to you, as long as it follows the building norm. for example, if the apartment complex offers 1-3 bedrooms and 1-2 bathroom plans, then your unit (no matter the default floorplan of the apartment it is based upon) can have any of those combinations. it, however, could not have 4 bedrooms or 3 bathrooms, for example.

Kellogg's Lofts - formerly a Kellogg's warehouse in its better days, this building stood unoccupied for nearly a decade after Kellogg's relocated. the spacious warehouse was renovated in 2012 with many stylish upgraded features. each unit is unique, as the building's features are utlized and accentuated. this space is perfect for college students, young professionals and the artsy hipster crowd. even though there are no garages for residents, there is plenty of dedicated on-site parking for tenants and guests alike. and the common area courtyard offers an oasis from the urban landscape. pets are ok. check availibility.

The Arboretum on Main - almost brand new, The Arboretum welcomed its first generation of tenants in the fall of 2014. located in bustling downtown ann arbor, and boasting a culture and atmosphere of green living standards, it's the perfect location for anyone who thrives in the city and is looking for an more environmentallly conscience living space. modern conveniences and upgrades give these suites a luxurious feel, all while keeping up leed silver standards. residents will enjoy many amenities including an outdoor pool, gardens, grilling stations and fire pits as well as a 24 hour fitness center, and private indoor parking. pets are welcome. The Arboretum is a smoke free community. check availibilty.

Windsor Commons - located just minutes from downtown ann arbor, windsor commons is the perfect location for anyone who enjoys the convenience of the city but prefers not to live right in the middle of it. these unique units offer spacious floorplans, that are great for families and multiple residents. quad designs give the feeling of townhouse living and offer privacy with outside entry and a private attached garage for every unit. residents will enjoy a heated pool with screened deck, and a 24 hour fitness center.
